Patricia J. Tiernan, RN, Clinical Program Director at TOLS has 25+ years of experience in the development and operation of rehabilitation programs for individuals with brain injury (BI) and has worked for a number of well known BI service providers. Ms. Tiernan was a co-founder of the VBIA at the inception of the organization in 1982. She served as board member and chairperson of the Virginia Neurotrauma Advisory Board that disperses grant funds for both community based services and medical research projects designed to improve care and services to persons sustaining a BI. She remains active, reviewing grant proposals for the Board.

Throughout her career she has provided many hours of both formal and informal training to persons interested in understanding the various aspects of “hands on” brain injury care and rehabilitation. Ms. Tiernan has an abiding belief that building strong, caring, therapeutic relationships between and among clients, professional staff, caregivers, families, and all involved parties is essential to maximizing rehabilitation outcomes and quality of life after a brain injury.
