We are family-inclusive

We encourage families and significant others to visit, as well as, participate in team conferences and goal planning.

At TOLS we are very much aware that families and friends are where our clients come from, where they return to, and where they receive physical and emotional support throughout their “rehab journey”. Only families and significant others can provide certain important information the TOLS team needs to integrate in the client’s daily care. Family, significant others, and friends are crucial throughout the course of recovery and rehabilitation from a brain injury. Their input is invaluable at admission, throughout the rehab process, at discharge and, when necessary, throughout long term supported living.

At TOLS we encourage families and significant others to visit, as well as participate in goal planning and team conferences either in person or by phone. We also make every effort to facilitate client’s visits home to spend time with family and friends. Visits to home provide well deserved periodic breaks to “vacation”, attend special events, and to re-connect with families and friends.

We believe family and friends are essential members of the treatment team and are an integral link to the “real world” for their loved ones with an ABI. We strongly believe in ongoing family involvement including education, support, counseling, and regular information exchange.

At TOLS, we know from long experience that when a brain injury occurs to one family member there may be lifelong ramifications to the entire family unit. TOLS staff strives to work together with families and significant others through the months/years following a brain injury to help them cope and adapt to the changes that have occurred to their loved one and their own lives.
